Our city, Encarnacion de Diaz (la Chona) is about 12 hours from the border. |
This is one of the roads we travel on from the border. |
There are many dangers on the road, in this case a small herd of cows. |
Getting closer to home, corn is popular during the rainy season. |
It is always nice to return home. |
La Chona from the top of our house. |
Our first home. |
La Chona is famous for its "pan dulce" or sweet bread. |
Our local grocery store is 2 blocks from our house. |
It carries most everything we need. |
We go to the meat store several times a week... |
...since it is brought in fresh almost everyday. |
Every Wed. and Sun. the market place is bustling with activity. |
But our favorite place in the city is less than a block away. (local taco stand) |
There is a catholic church for every neighborhood but this is the church in the main plaza. |
Less than a block from the plaza a local shepherd grazes his sheep in a dry river bed. |
The catholic church in our neighborhood is directly in front of our house. It comes complete with 5am parades, bells ringing every morning at 6am and it's very own virgin. |
The women in Mexico are the church's foundation as seen here in a parade installing a new idol in the church. |
