Our city, Encarnacion de Diaz (la Chona) is about 12 hours from the border.

This is one of the roads we travel on from the border.

There are many dangers on the road, in this case a small herd of cows.

Getting closer to home, corn is popular during the rainy season.

It is always nice to return home.

La Chona from the top of our house.

Our first home.

La Chona is famous for its "pan dulce" or sweet bread.

Our local grocery store is 2 blocks from our house.

It carries most everything we need.

We go to the meat store several times a week...

...since it is brought in fresh almost everyday.

Every Wed. and Sun. the market place is bustling with activity.

But our favorite place in the city is less than a block away. (local taco stand)

There is a catholic church for every neighborhood
but this is the church in the main plaza.

Less than a block from the plaza a local shepherd
grazes his sheep in a dry river bed.

The catholic church in our neighborhood is directly in front of our house. It comes complete with 5am parades, bells ringing every morning at 6am and it's very own virgin.

The women in Mexico are the church's foundation as
seen here in a parade installing a new idol in the church.
